What is Civil Engineering ?

                                  When the word `Civil Engineering' comes to our mind. Automatically our minds starts thinking about constructions, designs, drawings, maintenance etc. Civil Engineering is all about helping people and shaping the world. It's the work that civil engineers do to make our lives much easier. Civil Engineering is one of the world greatest profession
                                    Civil Engineers are responsible for all the great structure around us {Like:- Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Burj khalifa, Great wall of china, Brooklyn Bridge etc.} and throughout history.

                                          The Great Wall of China is one of the world greatest structures. Civil Engineers would have been vital in helping to build the wall. If build today it could cost around  
 28,888,061,136.00  (i.e. Approx. Twenty eight billion, eight hundred eighty eight million, sixty one thousand & one hundred thirty six) in Indian Rupees.

ADVANTAGE OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

                                           Civil engineers do engineering work specific to building and improving community infrastructure. They plan, design and monitor new building construction and improvements, rail and roadway projects, bridges, irrigation and sewer system, dams and other physical structures.

Creativity 

                                        Engineers have the unique ability to combine strong technical competence with creative designing. They need to know the ins and outs of building construction, including electrical and plumbing systems and functional workings. However, engineers often love the challenge of making plans that balance functional value with aesthetic appeal. In communities that emphasize contemporary design structure, engineers often renovate or rebuild more creative structures where older, more traditional structures once stood.

Field Work

                                     Civil engineers do spend some time in their offices planning, making appointments and participating in meetings. However, much of their work time is spent outdoors at work sites where they monitor buildings and projects and resolve project issues. The nature of the work keeps civil engineers active and on the move. It is also dynamic, which means each project has its own distinct design challenges and operational issue. Engineers also get to work closely with contractors, architects and workers.

Importance

                              Civil engineers are central figures in community development. Without their unique talents, communities would not grow and prosper. Buildings and roads provide the basis of city infrastructure. Engineers not only provide them, but they use their skills to optimize performance and efficiency of community systems. They also develop water and sewer system that balance safety standards with delivery of water and sewer processing, which are key functions in city operation and resident's health and comfort.
                           Where I grew up. A structure (building, etc) can be legally constructed without an architect but not without an engineer (civil/structural). Maybe because structural integrity is the primary concern.
                           I don't want to comment, on which role is more vital, or whether which transition would be easier.
                                However most of the client tend to consult architects first since they want a say on the aesthetics, functionality and other aspect of their building. some of the best example of architectural skill are present in our country like :- Fountain of Oneness, Louts temple etc.
